Consumer Credit Counselling

Credit and Debt Counseling

Finally Get Rid Of Your Anxiety

Many people view credit and debt counseling as a last straw effort only if you have financial difficulties and are being hard pressed to meet demanding creditors. As a former bill collector and retired senior vice president of consumer banking I can tell you that bankruptcy is the last straw.

Seeking credit and debt counseling is the first step you should take if you suddenly feel overwhelmed by debt obligations or feel anxiety over making your monthly payments.

From past experience as a bill collector I found that most people are very reluctant to seek credit and debt counseling. In fact, most people will be in a state of denial that a problem exists. The blame for their credit problems are typically attributed to others instead of their own actions and bad habits.

Self Esteem

The reason for this reluctance is a matter of pride and sense of self esteem. People generally relate their self worth to the material things they own, particularly in comparison of those around them.

It is the epitome of keeping up with the Joneses. Once you have started this cycle it is hard to stop the ride.

Credit and debt counseling provides you the support and help to you nurture self-empowerment over your finances and the emotionally impulses that got you into the situation.

It begins by acknowledging the existence of the debt and ends with a firm stand on following a well thought out plan. The stronger your commitment the more empowered you will feel and you will find in turn that the higher your self esteem will be.

Get Rid of Your Anxiety

Would you give an hour of your day if you could feel better and get rid of your anxiety? You can. A credit and debt counseling session typically lasts just one hour. One hour to get a great sense of relief. After one hour you will not have all the answers nor will you have a well thought out plan. What you will have is the relief and senses of calm knowing that someone understands your position, has probably been there themselves, and are offering you very practical debt solutions with confidence and authority.

You’re Stubborn and Don’t Need Any Help

Credit Repair is like dieting. Hard to do and maintain and when you do loss the debt it seems to just pile back on. Just as successful long term weight loss requires professional intervention so does successful credit repair. Most lenders, particularly banks, are generally sympathetic toward you if you approach them and readily admit you have a problem. They are especially willing to work with you if you have voluntarily taken the first step of seeking credit counseling.

Debt Consolidation Pitfalls

Debt consolidation is a great way to gain control on your finances and can successfully get you out of debt. However, many dig themselves a deeper hole. Bank employees are heavily incented to lend more and more money. Without professional credit and debt counseling you may not have the strength to hold off taking the high pressure pitch to borrow more. As a bank executive we were under constant pressure to lend more money. The tactic was to get consumers to take a loan for the maximum amount their credit score and collateral would allow. The vast majority of people took these offers in the form of home equity line of credit. If you have an addiction, you must avoid putting yourself into a position of temptation.
